There’s no doubt that Katy Perry’s life has been a roller coaster ride over the last year. From who’s she’s dating, to who she’s feuding with, or what she’s going through, it seems like nothing can slow the pop singer down.

Perry rose to mainstream success after singing in church during her childhood. She initially pursued a career in gospel music, before becoming one of the best-selling artists of all time. She has sold over 100 million records globally throughout her career so far.
All of this success in the music industry hasn’t prevented this music icon from her own dark thoughts.
Katy Perry live-streamed every single moment of her entire weekend on her YouTube channel to help build up hype for her new album, Witness. During the 100-hour long broadcast, we got to watch the pop singer sleep, cook, and eat. There were also some emotional moments, including during a therapy session with family therapist Dr. Siri Singh.
It was here that we got an intimate look at what the “Teenage Dream” singer was really facing when she wasn’t on stage.
At the start of the session, Singh asked Katy to “take a rest for a minute” and invited “Katheryn Hudson” (her real name) to start speaking. She started to discuss the differences between her true self, like when she’s with her sister or relaxing with her family over the holidays, and her on-stage persona.
That’s when the 32-year-old songstress opened up about how she really feels about her Katy Perry persona.
“I’ve built up this Katy Perry thing that everybody knows and that’s the reason why they’re tuning in and it’s fantastic, but it’s more of a facade than it is real.”
She goes on to share the intimate difference between her two personalities.
“I’m really strong as Katy Perry,” she tells Singh. “I guess I’m not as strong as Katheryn Hudson.”
It’s this difference in personality that encouraged her to go from long black locks to a short blonde pixie cut.
“People talk about my hair and they don’t like it, or they wish it were longer, and like, I so badly want to be Katheryn Hudson that I don’t even want to look like Katy Perry anymore sometimes,” she says in a tearful interview. “And that is a little bit of why I cut my hair, because I really want to be my authentic self, like 100 percent. So it hurts when I don’t feel like I can.”

Her therapist went on to ask if she had thoughts about wishing she wasn’t here anymore.
The simple answer that came from her was yes.
“I wrote a song about it,” she said during the live stream. “I feel ashamed that I would have those thoughts, feel that low and that depressed. You can be right or you can be loved. I just want to be loved.”
Hiding from her true self has been the root cause, and why she decided to make a physical change by cutting her hair.
“I’m a bit more nerdy than everybody thinks I am. I’m a big goofball. The fantasy of Katheryn went into Katy and made this bigger than life personality.”
“People can see at the end of the day that I’m just like them,” she confessed.
What do you think of her haircut now that you know why she did it?
